Japanese Stab Binding

Japanese stab binding photo book
This type of photobook did take me a while to create as i had to make sure all the images were exactly the same size and that the paper was also the same length. The stiching of the spine also toke a while as i had to punch the holes and then sew it. I do however love this type of photo book as its cheaper and it was fun to do, its still quite a formal photo book but the sewing adds more to it so its quite different from other photo books that i have seen. I am considering using this type of book for my final piece but i am still undecided between this one and going through a printing company.
To create the photo books front cover i measured the white card against the image paper size that would be going inside and created mine about 5cm larger each way to that the front cover was bigger than the inside contents. I then lined up the card to match the inside paper so that it was central inside.
To do the stitched spine i carefully lined up all of the paper and made sure they were all the same size, i then got a spare piece of paper to use as a template to create my holes. I did this by measuring where i wanted the spine and stitching to end, drawing a line vertically down and then i folded the paper landscape way 3 times to that i had equally spaced lines. Once this was done i drew 4 holes on this line where the fold were. Now i have my template i placed it on top of the first half of my book as it was too big to do altogether and used a hole maker to create holes through to the other side. Using a needle and thread i began following a youtube video on how to  correctly sew the book together
After seeing the final product i feel my images suit well with this book and it doesn't take the focus of the actual image. I may do a black or darker colour for the front cover instead of white, depending on whether i do monochrome or colour images.
